About me
I specialise in portrait and figurative work using water-based media, pastel and oils and I am a member of ‘The Saturday People’ - a self-funded group of artists who meet regularly throughout the year for life-drawing sessions. I was born and educated in Leeds but for many years now I have lived in the historic market town of Knaresborough in North Yorkshire.
I initially studied to go to Art College, but instead took a degree in mechanical engineering and followed this up with a career in research and development spanning 30 years, mostly in the Electricity Supply Industry. Throughout this time however, I maintained a keen involvement with fine art which resulted in one-man and collaborative exhibitions and early retirement has enabled me to concentrate on this even more. My work is all about people whether represented by the formal portrait or life-drawing or simply through recording encounters in my daily life. It may have been Picasso who once said that his work was his diary and this must apply to many other artists too, including me.
I exhibit with The Saturday People group and more of my work can be viewed on our website at www.saturdaypeople.org.uk.
